Glen Powell Runs for His Life in Edgar Wright’s Bold Remake of The Running Man

Hollywood Reloaded: Edgar Wright’s The Running Man Set to Thrill in 2025

Hollywood loves a comeback—and this time it’s racing at full speed. Legendary British filmmaker Edgar Wright is set to reinvent The Running Man, the cult 1987 sci‑fi classic that made Arnold Schwarzenegger an icon of dystopian action. But Wright’s take isn’t your typical nostalgia trip: it’s an ambitious, adrenaline‑fueled adaptation that dives deep into the darker, more chilling world envisioned in Stephen King’s 1982 novel.

Set to premiere on November 7, 2025, the film is already creating buzz as one of next year’s boldest and most anticipated releases.

From King’s Pages to the Big Screen

Unlike the campy, futuristic game show vibe of the ’80s film, Wright’s version leans into the gritty source material—a society obsessed with violence, corporate greed, and televised death as entertainment. It’s a world frighteningly familiar to our reality‑TV‑hungry age, and Wright, known for balancing satire with style (Baby Driver, Hot Fuzz, Last Night in Soho), seems perfectly suited to bring it to life.

Taking over the lead role of Ben Richards is Hollywood’s rising star Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You). Far from being a muscle‑bound superhero, Powell’s Richards is a desperate father fighting to survive for the sake of his family.

Joining him are some of Hollywood’s most versatile actors:

  • Josh Brolin as Dan Killian, the calculating showrunner who turns the deadly manhunt into prime‑time gold.
  • Lee Pace as Evan McCone, the stylish, relentless hunter stalking Richards.
  • Plus Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, David Zayas, and Sean Hayes—a dream ensemble that promises sharp drama and dark humor.

Edgar Wright isn’t playing it safe. Early footage teased at CinemaCon showcased high‑octane chase scenes filmed on real streets in London and Glasgow, practical stunts, and emotional storytelling that grounds the spectacle.

Fans can also breathe easy: Glen Powell personally reached out to Schwarzenegger, who gave the new project his “full blessing,” encouraging Powell to make the role his own.

Hollywood’s Fall Highlight

With a new release date moved up to November 7, 2025, the film lands at the start of awards season, suggesting the studio sees something more than popcorn entertainment.
