Netflix confirms Byeon Woo-seok for “Solo Leveling” series
Netflix has officially confirmed that rising South Korean star Byeon Woo-seok will lead the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the global hit series Solo Leveling. The announcement comes after months of speculation among fans eager to see who would step into the shoes of Sung Jinwoo, the story’s beloved protagonist.
Best known internationally for his roles in 20th Century Girl and the recent breakout K-drama Lovely Runner, Byeon Woo-seok’s casting is already generating massive buzz. The actor has built a reputation for bringing depth and quiet strength to his roles—qualities that perfectly align with Jinwoo’s transformation from the world’s weakest hunter to humanity’s most powerful hero.
Solo Leveling, originally a popular web novel by Chugong before being adapted into a best-selling webtoon, follows Jinwoo as he gains the mysterious ability to “level up” beyond the limits of ordinary hunters. The series has captivated millions worldwide with its blend of high-stakes battles, character growth, and dark fantasy themes.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation is said to remain faithful to the core narrative while also reimagining certain plotlines to fit the episodic format. Production is set to start later this year in South Korea, with a creative team that includes several veterans from acclaimed K-dramas and fantasy projects.
Fans have already taken to social media to share their excitement, praising Netflix’s decision to cast an actor whose recent performances have showcased the emotional range and physicality needed for the role.
While no official release date has been announced yet, the series is expected to premiere globally on Netflix sometime in 2026. Until then, audiences can look forward to seeing Byeon Woo-seok bring one of Korea’s most iconic modern heroes to life in a project that’s poised to make waves far beyond K-drama fandom.
