Shemar Moore Returns as Hondo in S.W.A.T. Exiles Spinoff

Shemar Moore Returns as Hondo in ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Spinoff

Shemar Moore is officially returning to television as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson in a brand-new spinoff, S.W.A.T. Exiles. The announcement came shortly after the original S.W.A.T. series concluded its eight-season run on May 16, 2025. The spinoff aims to carry forward the intense, action-driven legacy that fans have come to love.

In this new chapter, Hondo comes out of retirement to take charge of a newly formed, experimental S.W.A.T. team. The group, consisting of raw and relatively inexperienced recruits, is created in the aftermath of a failed high-stakes operation. The story will focus on Hondo’s efforts to guide and shape these young operatives into a unified and efficient unit, exploring themes like leadership, second chances, and personal growth.

The series has received a 10-episode order, with filming expected to begin in Los Angeles in summer 2025. Jason Ning—recognized for his work on Lucifer and The Brothers Sun—will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. He will be joined by Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scura, and Shemar Moore himself in producing the show.

While the original series aired on CBS, S.W.A.T. Exiles is currently being pitched to various networks and streaming platforms by Sony Pictures Television.

The final episodes of S.W.A.T. left viewers on the edge of their seats, as the team battled a terror threat involving Russian mercenaries who planted invisible drone-delivered mines across Los Angeles. The dramatic showdown culminated in a fierce confrontation at S.W.A.T. headquarters, where the team successfully repelled the attack.

Moore, who has long been the face and heart of the S.W.A.T. franchise, has remained vocal about his dedication to the series and its loyal fanbase. Following the show’s cancellation, he expressed both sorrow and gratitude, saying, “Nothing lasts forever, but I fight.” His unwavering passion helped energize fan efforts to support the show’s continuation, including calls for streaming services to pick it up.

With S.W.A.T. Exiles, longtime viewers can expect a thrilling new adventure as Hondo returns to lead, inspire, and protect once again—ushering in a new generation of S.W.A.T. officers while staying true to the spirit of the original series.
